”Fly to Japan! Project”(10,000 FREE FLIGHTS TO FOREIGNERS)

The Japan Tourism Agency is offering round trip tickets to “10,000 foreigners with high potential to communicate Japan’s attractions.”  I think they mean bloggers and the like.

I guess all you have to do is become a fan on Facebook and you have to be a foreigner with no intentions of becoming an illegal alien.

UPDATE: Well, after a little more research it looks like it has been cancelled.  It is very sad to hear about people’s continued hardship after last year’s Tsunami, but I do think “Fly to Japan” was a good idea stimulate tourism.  Perhaps they could have done a pilot project with 1,000 of the most prominent bloggers from fashion, food, technology and design…

We realise that this announcement is going to disappoint thousands of people around the world, but we hope people will understand how insensitive it would appear for the Japanese Government to give people free flights to Japan when the cities, towns and villages devastated by the tsunami are still in desperate need of funding for reconstruction. We also would not want people thinking that the generous donations given from around the world to aide those affected by the disaster was being spent on giving people free flights.

Jocelyn Hsiao (AKA legalesque): Please Stop Anonymity

I really cannot stand people that post anonymously. It is a harmful manifestation of the web at many levels.  If people cannot post honestly in their own skin, then they need to be more cautious.

Here is a twitter conversation I had with Jocelyn Hsiao about an unfortunate incident my wife had with Cleveland cabbies.  I find it peculiar how crass and hypocritical she became because I did not like her advice.  I thought her suggestion was “bullshit” but in no way did I personally attack her. It’s my right to disregard boring, unimaginative and outdated ideas, and she should be careful what online conversations with which she decides to voluntarily engage (even under anonymity).  After all, she is only 2 degrees away from me in Linkedin (perhaps she did not do her due diligence or she really is that arrogant to disregard people publicly as peons, idiots, so on and so forth).

As a law student at Case and future lawyer I would expect Jocelyn Hsiao to be able to take me not liking her staid advice. It makes me wonder how many quality lawyers there really are out there?

If you do not like my post, then stop reading now. However, please consider that the real Jocelyn Hsiao (aka legalesque) likely would not have acted the way she did if she was posting under her real name (ie. on Linkedin).  I can tolerate unimaginative and uncreative types and am all for honesty, but I have zero respect and patience for people who post anonymously.

Jocelyn, I hope you will reconsider posting under an alias and use your real name.

Below is the feed.  Feel free to check out both our twitter accounts, as well:

Here is my original tweet that started the conversation:

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

Taxis in CLE refuse to bring people from downtown to the InterContinental Hotel after 12AM? This should never happen but does. World Class?

Here is where Jocelyn decided to join in my conversation:

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) ‏ @legalesque

@JayYoo @dlayphoto I live in CLE Hts. A cabbie told me they don’t like to make the drive b/c it takes too long & no return rides back dtown.

Here is the exchange between Jocelyn Hsiao and I that ensued:

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@dlayphoto @legalesque It reflects poorly on CLE and is far from “World Class.” How do you think it makes women feel at 2AM?

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) ‏@legalesque

@JayYoo @dlayphoto Totally agree. I wonder if you can report the cab number to the city?

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque @dlayphoto That would be great. Perhaps if people could tweet it to the CLE police as this could be seen as a matter of safety.

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) ‏@legalesque

@JayYoo @dlayphoto Why don’t you try contacting them (tweet or otherwise) first?

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque @dlayphoto Well, I would hope someone @PositivelyCleve would be watching tweets and proactively respond. They get $ to do this.

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) ‏@legalesque

@dlayphoto @JayYoo Sorry, I disagree. If you have an issue, YOU deal with it instead of waiting for someone else to notice.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque @dlayphoto what is utterly obscene is that CLE foundations spent millions on studies and service still is subpar.

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

@dlayphoto @JayYoo Instead of waiting for someone to notice, be proactive and at least make the first round of contacts.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque @dlayphoto I am not going to do that bullshit. I am already being proactive and will be sure to include this in my own way.

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque@dlayphoto @JayYoo It’s like saying, we pay tax dollars for police services. We don’t have to report crime. They should be doing their jobs.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque @dlayphoto I am dealing with it in my own way. Yor suggestion is to mainstay and corporate. Has not and will not work.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque @dlayphoto jayyoo.com/post/201953271… I am doing something. Oh, and more brewing.

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

@JayYoo I think it’s incredibly vain to think that people give a shit about your tweets & blog. Your whiny attitude doesn’t help either.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque @dlayphoto Nope. It’s like CLE leaders watching people starve and turning a blind eye. I will do it in my own proactive way thx.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque Have you ever started anything?

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

@JayYoo As for my “starting anything,” you’re trying to start personal shit with the wrong person.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque Hah!

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

If you (talking about me) have 308 followers & you whine that a tourism organization you haven’t @ mentioned at all isn’t paying attention to you, TOUGH LUCK.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@dlayphoto Right on. I also having something that’s been cooking in the background since last Sept. Stay tuned. @legalesque

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@dlayphoto @legalesque Had a pro film crew follow me last week around CLE. This feed could be a wonderful springboard. Timing is everything!

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque You started it.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque I think its uber vain you telling me what to do.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque Answer the question.

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

Also, I find “I think its uber vain you telling me what to do” followed by “Answer the question” is highly ironic.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque I don’t give a shitake what people think of my blog. I am promoting it to you for for fun and not doing any homework.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque All that said. I do appreciate you being from SD and would only hope CLE could make things easy for you to want to stay. Really.

legalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

@RichardDooleyIV This guy (referring to me) has a problem and expects people to read his tweets/blog & solve it for him. Sorry dude, doesn’t work that way.

llegalesque (AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

@RichardDooleyIV Seriously? I blocked him because I don’t have time to deal with idiots, so I didn’t see. Sorry about that.

It’s interesting that under anonymity, Jocelyn decided to jump into a conversation with someone she does not know, offered utterly unimaginative approaches to long standing contextual problems, goes on to personally attack me, and then blocks me so I cannot respond (not even kindly)? Sorry Jocelyn, but I think your ego got the better of you here and you really are a mere mortal and no better than the rest of us.

Perhaps it might be good of you to start tweeting under your real name and doing a little homework before jumping into other people’s business.

We are all ironic and vain.  Look in the mirror and please get over yourself.

Lastly, please consider exploring more of the right side of the brain; your future may depend on it.

UPDATE: 05/03/2012

Well, I was impressed that the CLE Police with the help of Joe Cimperman are looking into the matter of cabs not driving people from West 6th street.  It is rather interesting that Jocylen Hsiao cannot see the light? She asks me to reach out.

So I did (via Twitter and other means) but not by her corporate approach and am getting some action on the matter.

Now Jocelyn is bashing the entire idea? Crazy. With a little imagination, there is a way to make this work for all.  Let me emphasize that it takes only a little imagination.

joecimperman @joecimperman

@dlayphoto @JayYoo could be because of valet / ped safety, will check. @CLEPolice any insight here?

Cleveland Police @CLEPolice

@JayYoo @joecimperman @dlayphoto Sorry…am checking just been a crazy week and our normal tweeter is on vacay…I promise, I’m on it.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

I am impressed that @CLEPolice are responding to tweets. This opens up some interesting opportunities for the community.

legalesque ‏(AKA Jocylen Hsiao) @legalesque

Of all things we want @CLEPolice @joecimperman to be aware of, it’s cab drivers who lose other fares driving to Cleveland Heights? Dumb.

Jay Yoo @JayYoo

@legalesque @joecimperman @dlayphoto If ppl get upset enough with Cabs in CLE they will think twice wanting to stay downtown. Not vey smart.

The Innovator’s DNA: Obvious?

The Innovators DNA is an obvious read.  That said, it is a really good kick in the ass when taken personally (seriously). Be sure to do a full 360 (ask other people) to see where you are on the discovery vs. delivery quotient stuff.

I still have a hard time believing that “a recent IBM poll of fifteen hundred CEOs identified creativity as the number one (#1) leadership competency of the future.”

Apple goes political with patent application.

This is great.  Apple, with more cash in the bank than the US Treasury, takes matters in their own hands when it comes to sustainability.  It’s great to think they would venture to reinvent “the battery,” or find other new ways to better power electronic devices, as more powerful gadgets require more power, particularly their displays.

Straight from the patent application:

“Our country’s continuing reliance on fossil fuels has forced our government to maintain complicated political and military relationships with unstable governments in the Middle East, and has also exposed our coastlines and our citizens to the associated hazards of offshore drilling,” the filings state. “These problems have led to an increasing awareness and desire on the part of consumers to promote and use renewable energy sources.”

It’s incredible to me that they put this in the Background / Related Art section of a patent application; sounds like something to campaign on.

Crab and Smoked Salmon Stuffed Mushrooms

I am not a fan of mayonnaise in crab cakes and prefer them with crunchy textures.  Here is a scratch recipe for Crab and Smoked Salmon Stuffed Mushrooms that are full flavored and fairly light.  You can eat these as a meal or serve them up as appetizers.   I prefer them with a drizzle of Alfredo sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 18 baby portobello mushrooms.
  • 1 egg.
  • 5 tablespoons of olive oil (you can also substitute butter if you like).
  • 1 handful of freshly copped parsley.
  • 1.5 cups of chopped cabbage (you will cook this, so it will reduce down).
  • 1.5 cups of cooked and diced crab meat.
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice.
  • 3 oz. of chopped smoked salmon.
  • 1 cup of crushed garlic pits chips (you can leave the bigger chucks for extra crunch).
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh dill weed.
  • 3/4
  •  cup of shredded parmesan cheese (you can substitute Monterey Jack if you have it lying around).
  • 1/4 of your favorite chardonnay.
  • Pinch of salt and pepper (don’t over do it as the garlic chips will add a lot of flavor).
  • 1-2 dashes of All Spice (don’t over do this, either).
  • Sprinkles of paprika.
  • Drizzle a little Alfredo sauce for juice and flavor.

Directions:

  1. Preheat over to 400 degrees F. Prepare 9x13 inch baking dish with 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil.
  2. Remove stems from mushrooms. Set aside caps. Finely chop stems.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to a medium saucepan over medium heat.  Stir in the cabbage and copped mushroom stems and cook until soft, about 3 minutes.  Remove from saucepan from heat. Stir in lemon juice, crabmeat, smokes salmon, pita chip crumbs, egg, dill weed, parsley, and 1/4 cup of cheese. Thoroughly blend the mixture.
  4. Place mushroom caps in the pan, and stir until caps are coated with the olive oil. Arrange caps cavity side up, and stuff cavities generously with the mixture. Top with remaining cheese. Pour wine into the pan around the mushrooms.
  5. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven 15-20 minutes, until cheese is melted and lightly browned.
  6. Lightly sprinkle paprika after taking the stuffed mushrooms from the oven.
  7. Serve warm and with your favorite chardonnay.

Enjoy!

iPhone 4 Mic Not Working: Stupid Fix

Recently my mic on my iPhone 4 stopped working properly.  When I put it on speaker during a call, people could barely hear me.  Strangely, when I made a voice memo, my recording was as clear as away?  I thought for sure it was a hardware malfunction, but the fact that I could record a voice memo then made me think it was a software glitch.

I tried everything  from restoring and backing up to bringing it in to the Apple Store, only to have them tell me I needed to, yes, buy a new iPhone.

Here is the stupid solution: Take a sewing needle and push the pointed end though the tiny voice reducing mic hole next to the headphone jack (but not all the way through).  Don’t worry, the hole is so small you will not be able to get much of the needle head in.

After taking a vacuum cleaner to the hole and headphone jack, viola!

There must have been some lint buildup causing the noise reducing mic to cancel virtually everything out.

It amazes me how many useless other fixes seemed to bubble up on Google.
