More Rock Art.  Happy New Year!

More Rock Art.  Happy New Year!

Norman McLaren

I was recently turned on to Norman McLaren, who was a pioneer in color animation back in the 1930’s (and beyond).  The time, thought and energy required for his work is mind boggling.  I appreciate the analog world.  Wow!

Creativity and Experimentation

I went to see Bugs Bunny at Blossom last night with the family and friends and had a ton of fun.  Seeing the Cleveland Orchestra play Warner Bros. Looney Tunes in sync with the animated cartoons caught my imagination.  The creativity of putting together a cartoon, especially back in the 1940’s is impressive to say the least.  Hundreds of people required to create the story, animation and music!

I can not get my mind off of the the innovation in entertainment and art that was going on at that time.

Big Chair

Big Chair

I spent the weekend in the country this weekend and had a blast.  It’s great getting and feeling away,  I drove by this chair 5 or so times in the past on the way to our friends house, but decided to pull over and give Big Chair a test drive.  It truly is massive and a trip to sit it.  If I had a sleeping bag, I think I would spent the night on it.

RockArt 2009

Here is some rock art I do every year on a lake in Michigan.  With the help of a few strongmen, we moved a +500 pound rock as the base and assembled this delicate sculpture.  It is designed to withstand strong waves and has been through some pretty intense thunder storms.  I hope it will be up until November.

My new hang out is definitely the Waterloo Cafe off of E. 156th.  It has a great open vibe and attracts very interesting creatives.  It’s the “Union Club” for the rest of us.  It has everything you need: Free WiFi, Stella on tap and great food, all at an affordable price.
I am always amazed at how rich the arts community is in Cleveland and appreciate it’s rather underground charm.  Stay tuned…
